Sunday, the American Red Cross isn't asking you to give blood. It's asking you to bowl.

The 18th Annual American Red Cross Charity Bowl is an event for family, friends and coworkers to get strikes - or bumpers - eat food, socialize and raise money for the Red Cross at Suburban Bowlerama.

Up to 90 teams of four to five people will be able to register for a two-hour bowling session. Each team member must raise at least $50 to enter. A team total must be at least $200.

Melinda Roadcap, events coordinator for the Red Cross, said all the proceeds go directly to the community.

About 60 teams showed up last year and more than $30,000 was raised. This year, the goal is $35,000.

"We encourage teams to dress to show their team spirit," Roadcap said. "There are team spirit prizes."

About 200 prizes will be awarded. Prizes include Hershey Bear tickets, Baltimore Orioles tickets, gift certificates for the Rainbow Dinner Theater and gift certificates to Roundtop Mountain Resort.

"Mostly everyone walks away with a prize," Roadcap said. "Everyone gets a ticket for participating, and at each session we do door prize drawings."

Walk-in registrations the day of the event are welcome. Roadcap said, for those planning to register the day-of, the first and third session usually have space available. The 1 to 3 p.m. session is the usually the first to fill.

Radio personalities from The Peak 98.5 will be at the all-ages event.

"It's not a stuffy, big corporate event," Roadcap said.

"You can bring your children, yourself, your coworkers, family and have a good time."
